So sad that you find expensive oolongs not much bteter than cheaper ones. You’ve either been very lucky or very unlucky.

Though I think i can guess which.

Good luck on your quest. It takes some time to realise what it is worth spending money on tea-wise. I find that expensive oolongs are not much nicer than cheaper ones, but it’s worth splashing out on a first flush darjeeling to get a soft, sweet, gentle cup of tea that you’ll love. Also, I know you hate teabags, but if you don’t mind spending a fortune, then Mighty Leaf produce excellent whole leaf teabags made of cloth. Steepster is a good place to find new tea companies, I’ve bought most of mine online and I have a “Cupboard” on the Steepster website so you can look at that.

By the way, the worst tea I’ve ever had was at Glenary’s in Darjeeling. Weak and flavourless, I think it was ‘waste grade’. I went to a Tibetan cafe on Hill Cart Road to wash the taste from my mouth, and on ordering a lemon tea, was given a glass of hot water with a squeeze of lemon and…a Tetley’s teabag.

I drank it while watching the tea harvest…
