10 strange pineapple facts

It is as odd as it looks!
They are very strange things, pineapples.
It would be reasonably easy to write a whole book, albeit a small one, containing things that most people probably don’t know about pineapples.
I don’t think anyone would buy the book though, so we’ll just keep it down to these 10 interesting (I think) facts.
-
There are a lot of foods that affect the taste of your seminal or vaginal fluids, but pineapple is one of the strongest. Eating a lot of pineapple makes you taste sweeter, and less ‘fishy’.
-
When you cut up a pineapple at home, you normally chuck the skin, core and ends in the bin. The pineapple canning industry doesn’t though, these bits are used for making alcohol, vinegar and animal feed.
-
Each pineapple plant only produces just one pineapple per year.
-
Unripe pineapples don’t just taste vile, but can actually be quite poisonous. Eating it causes serious throat irritation and it has a strong laxative effect.
-
Pineapples grow slowly, and can take up to two years to reach full size, so we pick and eat them when they are much smaller, but if they are left to their own devices they can reach up to 9kg (20lbs).
-
If you want to speed up the ripening of a pineapple, so that you can eat it faster, then you can do it by standing it upside down (on the leafy end).
-
Traditionally pineapple juice was used as a diuretic and to induce labour.
-
The Bromelain enzyme in pineapples breaks down proteins. This means that you can use pineapple or pineapple juice as a meat tenderiser.
-
The same Bromelain enzyme means that you can’t put fresh pineapple in jelly, because it breaks down the gelatine. You can stop this from happening by boiling the chunks of pineapple in their juice or in water for a few minutes, or you can use canned pineapple.
-
In case you find yourself on a sailing trip in the tropics without any Ajax, you might like to know that pineapple juice mixed with sand is very good for cleaning boat decks and machete blades.

That’s awesome, and I love that #1 fact. Thanks a bunch, I’m definitely keeping this url handy.
July 29th, 2009 at 1:14 am
The first fact is false. Silly people and their internet BS.
July 29th, 2009 at 3:58 am
Jim’s just mad because he tried it and his p*ssy cream still taste’s like fish and onions.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:04 am
Actually the first fact isn’t false at all.
Virtually everything in your diet has some affect on your ‘taste’. For example, eating a large amount of anything that contains a high level of fructose will generally make you taste sweeter.
Pineapple affects the taste faster and after ingesting smaller quantities than most other foods.
I know it’s fact, not only because I’ve read all of the science, but also because I’ve tried it.

You tried you own cum?
July 30th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
Well, pineapple changes the taste of both seminal and vaginal fluids, so I’ve experienced the effect on the female of the species.
I have tasted my own secretions as well though. You can’t expect anyone else to go down there if you aren’t willing to yourself.
This has now got way off topic though!

I totally give Kudos to John for his tidbit about going there himself..thats a beautiful thing…
i have asked guys that before and gotten the answers like peter and so on..
it’s nice to see some maturity.. PLUS if you have every kissed someone after they have played the skin flute.. you have tasted it anyway.
but yes #1 does work.. i <3 it

I totally agree with Bree and think we should start a fan club for John.I dont think its strange at all for a man to taste his own product.I have tasted my own and Im sure most if not all women have also.And yes, I can say that tip #1 does indeed work :}

why is it that you can’t find pineapple juice in plastic containers. I can only find it in cants.
August 3rd, 2009 at 12:40 pm
Thanks Bree, and anon fan club founder.
Sam, where do you live?
Where I live you can buy pineapple juice in both glass and plastic bottles, but I understand it is more often in tins in the USA.
Some manufacturers prefer not to package it in bottles, as pineapple juice is damaged by light, and being in a tin or other non opaque container gives it a longer shelf life.

Good god Ryan, I just about gagged there.

I’m not going to comment on the first fact, however after touring a pineapple plantation I can tell you that 6 is false, pineapples do not ripen any further once they have been harvested.
also a few fun facts to add
*a pineapple is actually made up of many smaller fruit (like a raspberry)
*it ripens from the bottom up so the bottom of the fruit is sweeter than the top
*pineapple plants in the wild produce fruit with extreme irregularity, plantations put the plants under stress to induce fruit growth (James Dole was the first to discover this effect)
August 6th, 2009 at 5:15 am
Number six works for me! The ripening was even and the fruit was juicy and sweet. I think the reverse upside down storage helps the juices flow to the top. Usually the bottom starts going before the upper sweetens up. A local grower told me to always pick the one that has started to turn yellow. If it’s all green, it won’t get any better.

#2 is false they throw them away
August 7th, 2009 at 7:21 am
so if i eat lots of vagina will my jizz taste like pussy?
August 7th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
yeah, different foods definitely affect the flavor. Pineapple and citrus are good. Broccoli and asparagus are bad. Bananas are good. Dark leafy greens not so good. My girlfriend and I have experimented VERY extensively on this subject. Too much red meat tends to make things taste to “bloody”. Chew on that a bit…

Barbecue sauce has a strong effect on earwax, you can detect weather it is a sugar free or SPLENDA™ version too. Toe jam is reliant on your consumption of beetroot for its flavoring, in fact ask any beetroot hater if you can taste their toe jam they will refuse, merely because their TJ is very very bland. You are best to sprinkle it on to anchovies or herring roes, beetroot tasting like pus as it does.

great facts and all but regarding factoid number one I have a hard time believing that You people have researched so extensively and that Your poor godforsaken girlfriends are giving You honest reliable answers. We need a scientific study with a control group or something.
In My experience Pineapple and Celery work very well together for this sort of thing, but what do I know.
August 17th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
So how much pineapple would you have to eat to make number 1 work?
August 18th, 2009 at 4:57 am
watermelon makes things pretty tasty might i add, from experience. chocolate too. what you eat affects the way you taste (as said). ‘you are what you eat.’ animal products and by products tend to make things more bitter if you will and less pleasant..
August 20th, 2009 at 5:12 am
Actaully the first fact is true. ask any OB/GYN and they should be able to tell u almost any fruit can make that sweeter and onions and garlic can make it more bitter
August 20th, 2009 at 5:14 am
It’s all garbage.
August 27th, 2009 at 4:22 am
I have proven #1 one as well…. But only because my eggplant sized member shot it in the there by accident. Too bad I had liver and onions for dinner.
August 27th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
The bit about one fruit per year isn’t correct either. I have a lot of pineapple plants growing in my yard and I got my second harvest of the year a few weeks ago. Once I even had two pineapples on the same plant at the same time!

This post proves an amusing first visit. I will return! Thanks for the informative laughs today.

@ Watch Me Eat – Where do you live? It seems really strange to have multiple fruitings in a year, and I’ve never heard of two fruits on the same plant at the same time!
@ Jennifer – Thanks, glad you like
@ octavio – Don’t most people taste a bit cheesy anyway?

Thanks for this list. You really made an effort to collect those interesting and unusual facts. I have a website about pineapples (http://www.pineapplefacts.info) and I wasn’t even aware of some of those facts.
July 7th, 2010 at 2:01 am
These are really interesting, and I’m with everyone who says #1 is true- what you eat really can affect your taste, some things more so then others. For example, someone who has been living off of nothing but ramen for weeks- just don’t go there! Bad idea… lol.
I’ve only ever seen pineapple juice is paper cartons here in California.
