About John

John was born about 30 years ago on the south coast of England (well, in a hospital, not on the shoreline or anything).

Since then he has lived and worked in eight different countries, doing all sorts of random things, and for the moment at least has no intention of moving to a ninth.

John has worked in a few kitchens at various times. His first experience of a commercial kitchen was cooking breakfast in a busy department store restaraunt and frying hundreds of eggs in an incredibly short space of time – the scars are faded but still there.

His current day job has nothing at all to do with food, but it does pay the bills. It’s a temporary measure until either this website becomes hugely successful and influential and he becomes a full time food blogger, or manages to save enough money to put his other plan (ominous, eh?) into operation.

John likes smelly cheeses and until recently wasn’t really sure what he wanted to be.

John is English, his wife is Polish, and his favourite foods are Chinese, Ethiopian and Italian.

About the site

johnonfood is a site about food and drink, for people who really care what they put in their mouth.

It is written because I can’t find a single food reference in print or on the web that gives me all of the information I want, and has a real persons opinions instead of just dry history and facts, and copied recipes.

This website is my way to change that, facts and recipes but with a human opinion behind them from someone who really cares what they put in their mouth.

Essentially, this is a blog, and the thing about blogs is that once an article is written it generally stays the same, but…

This isn’t just a blog, it’s a record of a learning journey, and as I learn more and more I will go back and update articles that I had written before with what I now know. It’s highly unlikely that any of my opinions on things will change significantly, and I will take care not to change anything that will affect comments that people have made on my posts. Some people might not like the concept of changing old blog posts, but tough – it’s my blog and I’ll do what I want with it. Apart from being my caprice it also means that this site(blog) will become the best source of info that it can be, as well as being an outlet for my opinions.
